Many long-running services will reload configuration and therefore
credentials on reload. Therefore its useful if a service reload will
also update credentials.
Tested in https://github.com/numtide/systemd-vaultd/pull/12
Systemd's credential interface is not yet natively supported by all
programs yet. Hence it's often required to run scripts to massage
secrets in the way the programs expect it.
This commit allows the ExecStartPre commands to access credentials.
Fixes https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/19604
Devices with multicast but without mac addresses i.e. tun devices
are not getting setuped correctly:
$ ip tuntap add mode tun dev tun0
$ ip addr show tun0
16: tun0: <NO-CARRIER,POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST,NOARP,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc fq_codel state DOWN group default qlen 500
link/none
$ cat /etc/systemd/network/tun0.network
[Match]
Name = tun0
[Network]
Address=192.168.1.1/32
$ ./systemd-networkd
tun0: DHCP6 CLIENT: Failed to set identifier: Invalid argument
tun0: Failed
This is useful for development where overwriting files out side
the configured prefix will affect the host as well as stateless
systems such as NixOS that don't let packages install to /etc but handle
configuration on their own.
Alternative to https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/17501
tested with:
$ mkdir inst build && cd build
$ meson \
-Dcreate-log-dirs=false \
-Dsysvrcnd-path=$(realpath ../inst)/etc/rc.d \
-Dsysvinit-path=$(realpath ../inst)/etc/init.d \
-Drootprefix=$(realpath ../inst) \
-Dinstall-sysconfdir=false \
--prefix=$(realpath ../inst) ..
$ ninja install
Widely accepted certificates for IP addresses are expensive and only
affordable for larger organizations. Therefore if the user provides
the hostname in the DNS= option, we should use it instead of the IP
address.
As in 2a5fcfae02
and in 3e67e5c992
using /usr/bin/env allows bash to be looked up in PATH
rather than being hard-coded.
As with the previous changes the same arguments apply
- distributions have scripts to rewrite shebangs on installation and
they know what locations to rely on.
- For tests/compilation we should rather rely on the user to have setup
there PATH correctly.
In particular this makes testing from git easier on NixOS where do not provide
/bin/bash to improve compose-ability.
The script does not use any bash features.
On NixOS we have /bin/sh and /usr/bin/env for posix compatibility
but not /bin/bash as it is stored in our nix store.
With this change one can run the `meson configure` without patching
which greatly helps, when working on upstream contributions.
This also adds the ability to incorporate arrays into netlink messages
and to determine when a netlink message is too big, used by some generic
netlink protocols.
