dongshengyuan f5ffb38606 tools: add -n shortcut for --dry-run
Accept -n as a short option for --dry-run in bootctl,
systemd-oomd, systemd-sysusers, and systemd-tmpfiles.

For systemd-repart, make -n equivalent to --dry-run=yes,
while keeping --dry-run=BOOL available.

Lennart Poettering 1421e6c5f4 bootctl: add link-auto/LinkAuto and auto-link on completed system update
Add a "bootctl link-auto" verb and a matching io.systemd.BootControl.LinkAuto()
Varlink method that behave exactly like "bootctl link" / Link(), except that
the UKI and extra resources are discovered automatically instead of being
passed in. The following directories are searched, in decreasing priority:
/etc/systemd/uki/, /run/systemd/uki/, /var/lib/systemd/uki/ (where
systemd-sysupdate stages downloaded resources), /usr/local/lib/systemd/uki/
and /usr/lib/systemd/uki/.

  - the UKI is taken from kernel.efi, or the best version in kernel.efi.v/
    (resolved via vpick, without honouring boot-counting suffixes), from the
    highest-priority directory that has one;
  - extra resources are picked up from extras.d/, matching *.sysext.raw,
    *.confext.raw and *.cred, each either as a plain file or as a versioned
    *.v/ directory resolved via vpick, combined across all directories with
    higher-priority directories winning on conflicts.

Everything is resolved relative to the pinned root directory fd. Files passed
via --extra= on the command line are linked in addition to the auto-discovered
ones.

Also bind io.systemd.SysUpdate.Notify.OnCompletedUpdate() in the boot control
Varlink server, which simply does the same as LinkAuto(), and hook a socket
into /run/systemd/sysupdate/notify/ via systemd-sysupdate-notify-bootctl.socket
(enabled by default via the preset) so a freshly downloaded kernel is linked
into $BOOT automatically after a sysupdate run.

Mike Yuan 577e5e9a5e parse-argument: make parse_tristate_argument() do something useful
I expressed the issue I have with parse_tristate_argument()
in #37751: it doesn't add any value to direct use of parse_tristate();
on the contrary, it doesn't support means to reset the arg to "auto"/-1 state.
The mere reason it existed is that we need a int type ret param.

Since the previous attempt to address this mess failed, let's
try to make the function more useful by making it accept "auto".
I figure this is useful on its own.

As requested in
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/40652#discussion_r2831833996,
the function name is suffixed with _with_auto() to establish
that "auto" is handled internally.

r-vdp 450e0dce02 systemd-boot: add a preferred setting that's similar to default but avoids booting known-bad entries
Motivation:
Currently, when setting the default boot pattern, boot assessment status
is not taken into account. This means that with boot assessment enabled,
when an explicit boot entry is configured as the default entry using an
EFI var, as is common for instance in A/B boot schemes, the configured
entry will be booted indefinitly, regardless of the entry's boot
assessment status.
In order to allow for this use case in combination with boot assessment,
we introduce a new `preferred` keyword, both in the config file and in the
bootctl CLI, that acts very similar to the existing `default` keyword but
takes boot assessment into account and never selects any entries that
have been marked as bad.
If the preferred pattern does not resolve to any bootable entry, and a
default pattern is also specified, then the default pattern will be
considered next, and we may then still select a known-bad entry to be
booted.

Igor Opaniuk 2857a83975 bootctl: configure a sysfail entry
You can configure the sysfail boot entry using the bootctl command:
$ bootctl set-sysfail sysfail.conf

The value will be stored in the `LoaderEntrySysFail` EFI variable.

The `LoaderEntrySysFail` EFI variable would be unset automatically
during next boot by `systemd-boot-clear-sysfail.service` if no
system failure occured, otherwise it would be kept as it is and a system
failure reason will be saved to `LoaderSysFailReason` EFI variable.

Lennart Poettering bbeeea4362 bootctl: replace --no-variables by --variables=BOOL
I think the current behaviour of not doing EFI variables when we are run
in a container makes a ton of sense, but in some cases it's useful to
do EFI var setup even when a set of namespaces is set up for us, for
example to recover a hosed installation from a rescue disk.

While we are at it, let's remove some duplicate checks, and
systematically output information why we skip various operations.

Emil Velikov 6efdd7fec5 sd-boot: add way to disable the 100ms delay when timeout=0
Currently we have a 100ms delay which allows for people to enter/show
the boot menu even when timeout is set to zero.

In a handful of cases, that may not be needed - both in terms of access
policy, as well as latency.

For example: the option to provide the boot menu may be hidden behind an
"expert only" UX in the OS, to avoid end users from accidentally
entering it.

In addition, the current 100ms input polling may cause unexpected
additional delays in the boot. Some example numbers from my SteamDeck:

 - boot counting/rename/flush doubles 300us -> 600us
 - seed/hash setup doubles 900us -> 1800us
 - kernel/image load gets ~40% slower 107ms -> 167ms

It's not entirely clear why the UEFI calls gets slower, nevertheless the
information in itself proves useful.

This commit introduces a new option "menu-disabled", which omits the
100ms delay. The option is documented throughout the manual pages as
well as the Boot Loader Specification.

v2:
 - use STR_IN_SET

v3:
 - drop erroneous whitespace

v4:
 - add a new LoaderFeature bit,
 - don't change ABI keep TIMEOUT_* tokens the same
 - move new token in the 64bit range, update API and storage for it
 - change inc/dec behaviour to TIMEOUT_MIN : TIMEOUT_MENU_FORCE
 - user cannot opt-in from sd-boot itself, add assert_not_reached()

v5:
 - s/Menu disablement control/Menu can be disabled/
 - rewrap comments to 109
 - use SYNTHETIC_ERRNO(EOPNOTSUPP)

Lennart Poettering c56be2c294 bootctl: add new --print-root-device option
We already have this nice code in system that determines the block
device backing the root file system, but it's only used internally in
systemd-gpt-generator. Let's make this more accessible and expose it
directly in bootctl.

It doesn't fit immediately into the topic of bootctl, but I think it's
close enough and behaves very similar to the existing "bootctl
--print-boot-path" and "--print-esp-path" tools.

If --print-root-device (or -R) is specified once, will show the block device
backing the root fs, and if specified twice (probably easier: -RR) it
will show the whole block device that block device belongs to in case it
is a partition block device.

Suggested use:

        # cfdisk `bootctl -RR`

To get access to the partition table, behind the OS install, for
whatever it might be.

Looks all OK to me.

Lennart Poettering 921fc451cb units: rename/rework systemd-boot-system-token.service → systemd-boot-random-seed.service
This renames systemd-boot-system-token.service to
systemd-boot-random-seed.service and conditions it less strictly.

Previously, the job of the service was to write a "system token" EFI
variable if it was missing. It called "bootctl --graceful random-seed"
for that. With this change we condition it more liberally: instead of
calling it only when the "system token" EFI variable isn't set, we call
it whenever a boot loader interface compatible boot loader is used. This
means, previously it was invoked on the first boot only: now it is
invoked at every boot.

This doesn#t change the command that is invoked. That's because
previously already the "bootctl --graceful random-seed" did two things:
set the system token if not set yet *and* refresh the random seed in the
ESP. Previousy we put the focus on the former, now we shift the focus to
the latter.

With this simple change we can replace the logic
f913c784ad added, but from a service that
can run much later and doesn't keep the ESP pinned.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek b66a6e1a58 man: "the initial RAM disk" → "the initrd"
In many places we spelled out the phrase behind "initrd" in full, but this
isn't terribly useful. In fact, no "RAM disk" is used, so emphasizing this
is just confusing to the reader. Let's just say "initrd" everywhere, people
understand what this refers to, and that it's in fact an initramfs image.

Also, s/i.e./e.g./ where appropriate.

Also, don't say "in RAM", when in fact it's virtual memory, whose pages
may or may not be loaded in page frames in RAM, and we have no control over
this.

Also, add <filename></filename> and other minor cleanups.
