A pid can be recycled, but a pidfd is pinned. Add a new method that is safer
as it takes a pidfd as input.
Return not only the D-Bus object path, but also the unit id and the last
recorded invocation id, as they are both useful (especially the id, as
converting from a path object to a unit id from a script requires another
round-trip via D-Bus).
Note that the manager still tracks processes by pid, so theorethically this
is not fully error-proof, but on the other hand the method response is
synchronous and the manager is single-threaded, so once a call is being
processed the unit database will not change anyway. Once the manager
switches to use pidfds everywhere, this can be further hardened.
When the target (Where=) of a mount does not exist, systemd tries to
create it. But previously, it'd always been created as a directory. That
doesn't work if one wants to bind-mount a file to a target that doesn't
exist.

Previously mere MemoryLow= directive would lead to emitting the compat
message 'Applying MemoryMax=18446744073709551615 as MemoryLimit=' even
though it carries little information.
And send READY=1 again when we are done with it.
We do this not only for "daemon-reload" but also for "daemon-reexec" and
"switch-root", since from the perspective of an encapsulating service
manager these three operations are not that different.
In 'data' we get the location passed in we write stuff, and that's not
the Manager object.
And we neither get the Manager passed in via 'userdata', because at the
time we parse the emergency action for the manager the Manager is not
actually allocated yet.
hence, let's fix this differently, and pass in the user/system mode
descriptor via the 'ltype' argument.

This is intended to be used with VSOCK, to notify the hypervisor/VMM, eg on the host:
qemu <...> -smbios type=11,value=io.systemd.credential:vmm.notify_socket=vsock:2:1234 -device vhost-vsock-pci,id=vhost-vsock-pci0,guest-cid=42
(vsock:2:1234 -> send to host on vsock port 1234, default is to send to 0 which is
the hypervisor itself)
Also on the host:
$ socat - VSOCK-LISTEN:1234,socktype=5
READY=1
STATUS=Ready.
This is a small cleanup removing the need for the spurious
*ret_shutdown_verb argument on invoke_main_loop() while moving
the MANAGER_OBJECTIVE::shutdown_verb string mapping local to
where it actually gets added to the shutdown argv in
become_shutdown().
This also eliminates the need for the several clearings of
*ret_shutdown_argv, and the streq() branches of shutdown_verb in
favor of plain equality tests against the objective value.
Nothing functionally has been changed.
-1 was used everywhere, but -EBADF or -EBADFD started being used in various
places. Let's make things consistent in the new style.
Note that there are two candidates:
EBADF 9 Bad file descriptor
EBADFD 77 File descriptor in bad state
Since we're initializating the fd, we're just assigning a value that means
"no fd yet", so it's just a bad file descriptor, and the first errno fits
better. If instead we had a valid file descriptor that became invalid because
of some operation or state change, the other errno would fit better.
In some places, initialization is dropped if unnecessary.
As you can see in the below, the dropped dependency Before=issue-24990.service
is not logged, but the dependency Before=test1.service which is not owned by
the units generated by the TEST-26 is logged.
Before:
systemd[1]: issue-24990.service: Dependency After=test1.service dropped, merged into issue-24990.service
systemd[1]: issue-24990.service: Dependency Before=test1.service dropped, merged into issue-24990.service
After:
systemd[1]: issue-24990.service: Dependency After=test1.service is dropped, as test1.service is merged into issue-24990.service.
systemd[1]: issue-24990.service: Dependency Before=issue-24990.service in test1.service is dropped, as test1.service is merged into issue-24990.service.
Define new unit parameter (LogFilterPatterns) to filter logs processed by
journald.
This option is used to store a regular expression which is carried from
PID1 to systemd-journald through a cgroup xattrs:
`user.journald_log_filter_patterns`.
This is an octal number. We used the 0 prefix in some places inconsistently.
The kernel always interprets in base-8, so this has no effect, but I think
it's nicer to use the 0 to remind the reader that this is not a decimal number.
When generators are executed during early boot, /tmp might not be available
yet. This causes problems with bash, because here-docs don't work. Even
non-shell code can often assume that /tmp is available. This limitation is
known to trip up people, and when the code is tested on a "normal" system,
everything works.
We can solve this nicely, and get another small benefit, by making most of the
file system read-only and "punching holes" for some dirs that should be
writable. The generator code runs with full privileges and can do anything it
wants by writing appropriate systemd units, so it doesn't make much sense to do
any significant sandboxing around generators. But making root read-only is nice
because it can catch stupid mistakes where the generator tries to write to a
wrong path or something like that. We effectively also get a "private /tmp" for
the generators, which protects them against existing files in /tmp.
The path does the following:
when executing generators, we fork, and the child unshares root and makes
it recursively read-only, with the exception of /sys and /run. Error handling
is permissive — if some of this setup fails, we're in the same state as
before the patch.

If the page size of a swap space doesn't match the page size of the
currently running kernel, swapon will fail. Let's instruct it to
reinitialize the swap space instead.
Reloading is a heavy-weight operation, and currently it is not
possible to stop an orchestrator from spamming reload requests.
Add configuration options to allow rate-limiting.
Reloading is a heavy-weight operation, and currently it is not
possible to figure out who/what requested it, even at debug level
logging.
Check the sender of the D-Bus message and print it out at info level.
RUN_WITH_UMASK was initially conceived for spawning externals progs with the
umask set. But nowadays we use it various syscalls and stuff that doesn't "run"
anything, so the "RUN_" prefix has outlived its usefulness.
