Lennart Poettering 90d285ade7 recurse-dir: optionally, only enumerate dentries of a specific type
At various places we filter directory enumerations by inode type. Let's
add explicit support for that, so that the "struct dirent" array we
return already suppresses them.

This shortens code and makes things more robust.

Luca Boccassi efccc0dc23 debug-generator: assert breakpoint type is valid before bit shift
The BreakpointType enum includes _BREAKPOINT_TYPE_INVALID (-EINVAL),
so Coverity flags the bit shift as potentially using a negative shift
amount. Add an assert to verify the type is in valid range, since the
static table only contains valid entries.

Luca Boccassi 1929226e7e debug-generator: use unsigned bit shift for breakpoint flags
Using signed int literal '1' in left shift can lead to undefined
behavior if the shift amount causes overflow of a signed int. Use
UINT32_C(1) since the result is stored in a uint32_t variable.

Antonio Alvarez Feijoo e9f781a5a4 debug-generator: add a kernel cmdline option to pause the boot process
Introduce the `systemd.break=` kernel command line option to allow stopping the
boot process at a certain point and spawn a debug shell. After exiting this
shell, the system will resume booting.

It accepts the following values:
- `pre-udev`: before starting to process kernel uevents (initrd and host).
- `pre-basic`: before leaving early boot and regular services start (initrd and
host).
- `pre-mount`: before the root filesystem is mounted (initrd).
- `pre-switch-root`: before switching root (initrd).

Lennart Poettering 8eeb870971 fileio: port write_string_file() to LabelOps, and thus add WRITE_STRING_FILE_LABEL flag
Given that we have the LabelOps abstraction these days, we can teach
write_string_file() to use it, which means we can get rid of
fileio-label.[ch] as a separate concept.

(The only reason that fileio-label.[ch] exists independently of
fileio.[ch] was that the former linekd to libselinux potentially, and
thus had to be in src/shared/ while the other always was in src/basic/.
But the LabelOps vtable provides us with a nice work-around)

Daan De Meyer 82c2214539 debug-generator: Allow specifying name of unit-dropin credential
A fixed name is too rigid, let's give users the ability to define
custom drop-in names which at the same time also allows defining
multiple dropins per unit.

We use ~ as the separator because:
- ':' is not allowed in credential names
- '=' is used to separate credential from value in mkosi's --credential
  argument.
- '-' is commonly used in filenames
- '@' already has meaning as the unit template specifier which might be
confusing when adding dropins for template units

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek baa6a42d27 basic: create new basic/initrd-util.[ch] for initrd-related functions
I changed imports of util.h to initrd-util.h, or added an import of
initrd-util.h, to keep compilation working. It turns out that many files didn't
import util.h directly.

When viewing the patch, don't be confused by git rename detection logic:
a new .c file is added and two functions moved into it.

Lennart Poettering 35cd0ba516 shared: clean up mkdir.h/label.h situation
Previously the mkdir_label() family of calls was implemented in
src/shared/mkdir-label.c but its functions partly declared ins
src/shared/label.h and partly in src/basic/mkdir.h (!!). That's weird
(and wrong).

Let's clean this up, and add a proper mkdir-label.h matching the .c
file.

is something to be used by pid1 and related utilities, not something for

Ideally, coccinelle would strip unnecessary braces too. But I do not see any
option in coccinelle for this, so instead, I edited the patch text using
search&replace to remove the braces. Unfortunately this is not fully automatic,
in particular it didn't deal well with if-else-if-else blocks and ifdefs, so
there is an increased likelikehood be some bugs in such spots.

I also removed part of the patch that coccinelle generated for udev, where we
returns -1 for failure. This should be fixed independently.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 053254e3cb generators: drop umask calls
systemd already sets the umask (see e3b8d0637d). When
running under systemd, we don't need to set it. And when *not* running under
systemd, for example during development, there is no reason to override the user
config. Let's just drop those calls.

Lennart Poettering 0c69794138 tree-wide: remove Lennart's copyright lines
These lines are generally out-of-date, incomplete and unnecessary. With
SPDX and git repository much more accurate and fine grained information
about licensing and authorship is available, hence let's drop the
per-file copyright notice. Of course, removing copyright lines of others
is problematic, hence this commit only removes my own lines and leaves
all others untouched. It might be nicer if sooner or later those could
go away too, making git the only and accurate source of authorship
information.

Lennart Poettering 818bf54632 tree-wide: drop 'This file is part of systemd' blurb
This part of the copyright blurb stems from the GPL use recommendations:

https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.en.html

The concept appears to originate in times where version control was per
file, instead of per tree, and was a way to glue the files together.
Ultimately, we nowadays don't live in that world anymore, and this
information is entirely useless anyway, as people are very welcome to
copy these files into any projects they like, and they shouldn't have to
change bits that are part of our copyright header for that.

hence, let's just get rid of this old cruft, and shorten our codebase a
bit.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 11a1589223 tree-wide: drop license boilerplate
Files which are installed as-is (any .service and other unit files, .conf
files, .policy files, etc), are left as is. My assumption is that SPDX
identifiers are not yet that well known, so it's better to retain the
extended header to avoid any doubt.

I also kept any copyright lines. We can probably remove them, but it'd nice to
obtain explicit acks from all involved authors before doing that.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 37cbc1d579 When mangling names, optionally emit a warning (#8400)
The warning is not emitted for absolute paths like /dev/sda or /home, which are
converted to .device and .mount unit names without any fuss.

Most of the time it's unlikely that users use invalid unit names on purpose,
so let's warn them. Warnings are silenced when --quiet is used.

$ build/systemctl show -p Id hello@foo-bar/baz
Invalid unit name "hello@foo-bar/baz" was escaped as "hello@foo-bar-baz" (maybe you should use systemd-escape?)
Id=hello@foo-bar-baz.service

$ build/systemd-run --user --slice foo-bar/baz --unit foo-bar/foo true
Invalid unit name "foo-bar/foo" was escaped as "foo-bar-foo" (maybe you should use systemd-escape?)
Invalid unit name "foo-bar/baz" was escaped as "foo-bar-baz" (maybe you should use systemd-escape?)
Running as unit: foo-bar-foo.service

Fixes #8302.

Lennart Poettering 6c347d5024 log: remove LOG_TARGET_SAFE pseudo log target
This removes LOG_TARGET_SAFE. It's made redundant by the new
"prohibit-ipc" logging flag, as it used to have a similar effect: avoid
logging to the journal/syslog, i.e. any local services in order to avoid
deadlocks when we lock from PID 1 or its utility processes (such as
generators).

All previous users of LOG_TARGET_SAFE are switched over to the new
setting. This makes things a bit safer for all, as not even the
SYSTEMD_LOG_TARGET env var can be used to accidentally log to the
journal anymore in these programs.
