Daan De Meyer 838528104b nsresourced: Optionally map foreign UID range
Whenever delegating UID ranges to a user namespace, it can also be
useful to map the foreign UID range, so that the container running in
the user namespace with delegated UID ranges can download container
images and unpack them to the foreign UID range.

Let's add an option mapForeign to make this possible. Note that this option
gives unprivileged users full access to the any foreign UID range owned directory
that they can access. Hence it is recommended (and already was recommended) to
store foreign UID range owned directories in a 0700 directory owned by the
owner of the tree to avoid access and modifications by other users.

This is already the case for the main users of the foreign UID range,
namely /var/lib/machines, /var/lib/portables and /home/<user> which all
use 0700 as their mode.

Users will also be able to create foreign UID range owned inodes in any
directories their own user can write to (on most systems this means /tmp,
/var/tmp and /home/<user>).

Marien Zwart 1599b6fbe2 docs: fix conversion / calculation errors
0x1770 is 6000, not 60000. It looks like 60000 is intended (the next
range starts at 60000 in both decimal and hex), so use that.

1000 to 60000 is 59001 users, as the range is inclusive on both sides.
Similar off-by-one for one of the "unused" ranges. After these changes,
the sizes of the ranges up to and including the "-1" ID sum up to 65536,
as expected.

I'm not sure where the size of the unused range after the container UID
range came from, but it is not correct (the "Container UID" and this
reserved range combined would be larger than the "HIC SVNT LEONES" 2^31
to 2^32-2 range...). Fix it.

It is unfortunate that the first half of this table makes more sense in
decimal while the second half makes more sense in hex (which would also
make the size in 65536 chunks easy to obtain): I'm tempted to add a
"sizes in hex" column...

Adrian Vovk 554130faf3 Define uid range for greeter
In multi-seat scenarios, a display manager might need to start multiple
greeter sessions. But systemd allows at most one graphical session per
user. So, display managers now have a range of UIDs to dynamically
allocate users for their greeter sessions.

Lennart Poettering ec0c10fc9d user-classification: add new "foreign" UID range
This makes the UID range configurable via build time options, but of
course it really shouldn't be changed. The default range I picked is
outside even of IPAs current (ridiculously large) allocation ranges,
hence hopefully minimizes conflicts.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 8e3fee33af Revert "docs: use collections to structure the data"
This reverts commit 5e8ff010a1.

This broke all the URLs, we can't have that. (And actually, we probably don't
_want_ to make the change either. It's nicer to have all the pages in one
directory, so one doesn't have to figure out to which collection the page
belongs.)

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 7e4f30c3d0 docs/UID-GIDS: mention that ranges are actually configurable
It silly for our docs to say that they aren't when we added support for this a
few years ago.

Also, drop some mentions of "runtime". This implied that those values can be
changed almost at will, but actually, they can only be meaningfully changed
_before_ the allocations are made.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 53393c894d Look at /etc/login.defs for the system_max_[ug]id values
It makes little sense to make the boundary between systemd and user guids
configurable. Nevertheless, a completely fixed compile-time define is not
enough in two scenarios:
- the systemd_uid_max boundary has moved over time. The default used to be
500 for a long time. Systems which are upgraded over time might have users
in the wrong range, but changing existing systems is complicated and
expensive (offline disks, backups, remote systems, read-only media, etc.)
- systems are used in a heterogenous enviornment, where some vendors pick
  one value and others another.
So let's make this boundary overridable using /etc/login.defs.

Fixes #3855, #10184.

Lennart Poettering 38ccb55731 nss-mymachines: drop support for UID/GID resolving
Now that we make the user/group name resolving available via userdb and
thus nss-systemd, we do not need the UID/GID resolving support in
nss-mymachines anymore. Let's drop it hence.

We keep the module around, since besides UID/GID resolving it also does
hostname resolving, which we care about. (One of those days we should
replace that by some Varlink logic between
nss-resolve/systemd-resolved.service too)

The hooks are kept in the NSS module, but they do not resolve anything
anymore, in order to keep compat at a maximum.

Filipe Brandenburger c3e270f4ee docs: add a "front matter" snippet to our markdown pages
It turns out Jekyll (the engine behind GitHub Pages) requires that pages
include a "Front Matter" snippet of YAML at the top for proper rendering.

Omitting it will still render the pages, but including it opens up new
possibilities, such as using a {% for %} loop to generate index.md instead of
requiring a separate script.

I'm hoping this will also fix the issue with some of the pages (notably
CODE_OF_CONDUCT.html) not being available under systemd.io

Tested locally by rendering the website with Jekyll. Before this change, the
*.md files were kept unchanged (so not sure how that even works?!), after this
commit, proper *.html files were generated from it.
